Smooth River Pebbles are the substrate of choice for both treshwater turties and axolotls for a number of very important reasons.

Weight
Turtles in particular have a habit of moving things around. While interesting to watch this can be annoying and detrimental to your display. Aqua Natural Turtle and Axolotl Pebbles are specifically sought and graded to keep your arrangement in place.

Cleaning
Unlike sand and gravel, Aqua Natural pebbles are easy to remove and clean when needed. Algae and other debris can be scrubbed off casily.

Safety

Both turtles and axolotls tend to lunge at their food and prey. This form of behaviour can result in unwanted ingestion of substrate which can cause compaction and internal bleeding which may lead to severe injury or death. Using Aqua Natural Pebble ensures your animals cannot swallow them by mistake.

Aqua Natural river pebbles are sourced from rivers and streams that have tumbled the pebble over long periods of time resulting in smooth rounded stone that cannot cause injurty or cuts in any way.

How much substrate to purchase
For a planted tank we suggest approx 2in or 5cm depth.

For pounds:
Aquarium Length inches x Width inches x Desired depth inches divided by 32 eqauls the weight need in lbs.

For Kilograms:
Aquarium Length centimetres x Width cm x Desired depth cm divided by 1,000 equals the weight needed in kgs.
