About

Excessive algae growth is the most common complaint of aquarium keepers of all experience levels. Left unchecked, it is both unattractive and hazardous to fish and plant life. Fritz Algae Clean Out® is the most concentrated EPA-registered algaecide formula available. Fritz Algae Clean Out® targets string algae, blanketweed and green water caused by single-celled algae. Unlike some algaecides on the market, Fritz Algae Clean Out contains no copper and is a selective algae control product that will not harm fish and live plants when used as directed.

Fritz Algae Clean Out is effective in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, fountains and small ponds.

Can I use Fritz Algae Clean Out® to prevent algae growth starting?
Fritz Algae Clean Out® is formulated specifically to treat existing algae problems, we do not recommend using as a preventative. We do recommend using FritzZyme® 360 or FritzZyme® 460 to get phosphates and nitrates, which lead to future algae breakouts, under control.

The bottle says “Safe for saltwater.” Is this reef safe?
Yes, extensive testing has shown Fritz Algae Clean Out® to be reef safe when used as directed.

Is this safe for pets and wildlife?
Yes, it can be used in any system accessible by pets and wildlife, including birds, amphibians, and reptiles. It is non-toxic and will not cause any harm if treated water is ingested.

After using, my algae came back after a month! What gives?
Fritz Algae Clean Out® is an algaecide that effectively, rapidly eliminates existing algae growth. It does not prevent new algae growth from occurring. To prevent that, you have to remove any excess nutrients (foods, phosphates, direct sunlight) from your aquarium or pond. Ornamental plants can be used to consume some of those excess nutrients.

I have a really bad algae problem. Can I double the dosage?
No, it is not safe or recommended to exceed the label dosage. Use repeat doses per the directions if needed and find out what is causing the algae growth: phosphates, uneaten foods, hours of direct sunlight, etc.

Can you use Fritz Algae Control with shrimp and snails?
No, the algaecide is not safe with freshwater invertebrates.
