Tank Hardening Service (previously Quarantining)
Here at Hurstville Aquarium, we offer customers with a fish quarantining service. We were one of the first to do it commercially, first starting in 2017! See our blog. This service will allow for customers to purchase fish from us and have them monitored and medicated with the necessary treatment to ensure the best possible outcome. We strive for all of our customers fish to be healthy and thriving but most importantly free of any parasites or diseases. Our Tank Hardening Service (previously quarantining, not to be confused with importation quarantine), is a service provided to help with the introduction of our fish, to your systems by means of making sure our fish are ‘tank hardened’ by monitoring the fish for a minimum of 5 weeks and using various medications to help with issues arising from parasites and disease. See below an example of the minimum of what we will provide.
T.H.S. Process:
Week 1-2
- Monitor fish in tank for disease and parasites. Ensure fish are eating well and are healthy enough to start medication.
Week 2-4
- Start treatment of copper to help with external parasites such as Cryptocaryon Irritants (Marine White-spot) and Velvet. Praziquantel will also be used to help with Flukes and Internal Parasites. Metronidazole may also be used to help with Internal Parasites, Brooklynella and Uronema Marinum.
Week 5+
- Flush system of left-over medication and ready fish for introduction
- Times may vary according to each individual fishes needs.
- Other medications may be used during the process.
How to start the process:
1. We will need to ensure we have an adequate tank available to start the process.
2. Before any fish are introduced into the Quarantine systems, the fish and the treatment process fee will need to be paid in full upfront.
3. Fish may die from various reasons, and we will not be held liable for the fish death. Customers must be aware and agree to the terms and conditions of entering the process and we hold no liability for the fish and therefore no credit will be provided.
4. We will keep customers up to date with the process and condition of the fish. Customers at any given time can come into store to view their fish or request for photographs or videos to be sent to them to view.
T.H.S. Fee Structure:
Fish value of each fish
<$99 = T.H.S. fee $55 p/fish
$100-$299 = +100% total value of fish purchased
$300-$499 = +50% total value of fish purchased
$500-$999 = +35% total value of fish purchased
$1000 = + to be quoted
Guarantees:
Please be aware that we will hold no liability and responsibility for the health of the fish before and after release. We provide no guarantees that the fish will not contract further parasites and disease once it enters your system as we can not guarantee what has been previously introduced or will be introduced into your systems. Parasites and disease can be introduced in several ways, such as but not limited to live rock, natural sea water, previous and future fish additions, coral, media, water from other systems etc.
Parasites and disease can remain hidden in your systems for long periods of time even though the fish may show no symptoms. Parasites and disease can manifest in fish which have been previously stressed from being caught and transported between systems, which will make them more susceptible to show signs and symptoms of parasites and disease whereas inhabitants in your current system have built immunity to the signs and symptoms.
